International Camp: Building Friendships and Increasing Understanding

The International Camp is one key activity of the Master of Primary Health Care Management (MPHM) program at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development (AIHD), Mahidol University, with the aim of building a stronger regional identity by raising awareness of world history and heritage through the arts. This original intention has remained in place since the beginning of the program which starts at the very beginning of the month. Over the years, the aims of the International Camp have expanded to give participants a better understanding of all the people in the world.

Twenty-seven young creative individuals from this current batch coming from three ASEAN member states, Japan, Kenya, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan gathered in Ayutthaya province to participate in this year’s International Camp. Through the two-day activity, the participants were able to learn about one another’s culture and history through arts, to share their experiences and build friendships and increase understanding. This year’s camp had the theme of “Save the World”.

During their stay in Ayutthaya province, the participants took part in various activities including dance, music, photojournalism, cross cultural events, and educational team-building games; they also participated in the planting of mangrove trees. These activities were led by professional instructors and AIHD staff in order to help participants to further develop their talents. Other activities included a boat trip around Bang Pa In Royal Palace.
